From Ron Turner - 9/17/ 00, 6:41 pm Subject: Foundation's Foundation To recapture the Oroville Foundation of Flight' s progress over the past week- : After a Great enthusiastic crew has disassembled and moved our "Briefing Hut to our building site, we have begun the reassembly sequence. (This proceedure can be viewed and watched as it progress's on the Chapter/ OFoF web site by typing in <http://fly.to/eaa-oroville> then clicking on Oroville Foundation of Flight, then click on Briefing Hut Project ) However I have included a quick snap-shot taken Friday PM as the week drew down to a close. (see attachments:) Last week Dan used marking chalk to lay out the electrical cable routing, terminal and pole locations. Along comes "U S A" marking the route of the present underground services to the Beale Air Force weather station adjacent to our site. YES ! (Murphys Law) we woud have tore into the existing underground electrical service, if we had dug through the proposed route. (Hello Sparks !! - Oh ____ ) So that is why Dan re-marked the route of our coming underground excavations. Ray Bell and I dug the hole for the reciever pole five feet from the fence adjacent to the existing pole with the transformer on it. Then began diging the trench for the cable away from the pole location. Dan had previously chalked out the footing for the "Hut". This was dug out with Howard, MD, Joe, Dan, Ray, and Bob's assistance. Excess material was removed and cleared from the work area. We then excavated the trench leading into and under the concrete slab, installed the 90 degree elbow and ten feet of conduit. The conduit was backfilled and we discussed the placement of the "duck bill" anchors. (before retiring to the 19th. hole for refreshments.) I almost forgot - while some of this was going on - Bob adn Howard mixed grout and grouted in the new flagpole bases. The following day found re-bar and forming lumber showing up, and placed around the perimeter of the pad. Some "Bedding sand" was dumped into the buildings perimeter before "Framing up" begins. - IT was a busy and productive week. - But very enjoyable to all. Next week should find some of us out there probably every day. The electrical trench will be dug, wire will go in, and backfilling will follow. Electrical panels will be assembled and placed on hand, the meter head will be placed on the power pole and the power pole will be erected, (after someone procures it and hauls, or has it hauled to the site) Meanwhile the forms will be installed and leveled out for the slab. The "Duck Bill" anchors will be drilled in, stressed and the re-bar inserted in their appertinate cable eyes. All rebar will be positioned and the bedding material placed inside the forms in readyment for concrete.. Whoopee - HERE we GO RON

Building Becoming a Reality - 9/2/00 Hut Disassembly Day three (8/31/00) went exactly as planed. Prior to this (8/30/00), the ropes were placed in position then Thursday morning the "sono-tube" was rolled up a couple turns into the West end of the vinyl "cover" part and upon signal by Dan, the cover was rolled up and over the framework of our new "Briefing Hut". Air Filtration's fork lift played an important part lifting men up to undo the cover from it's appertinate fastening places. Ray Bell was practically non-stop in pressure washing the cover once it was spread out on the pavement apron. The back wall and front door sections were next to come down and be washed and folded up. All structural parts that were removed were loaded on Les's trailer followed by the vinyl sections as they became cleansed. Dave Harmacek provided the pick-up that pulled the loaded trailer to the "Home Site' where everything was off-loaded. Over eighteen members showed up to assist in this gigantic task. Thanks goes out to all of you. We then retired to the 19th. hole for body replenishments. Steelwork Disassembly Schedule Day four, (final removal of the frame from AFC) is scheduled to begin at 0900 Tuesday, 9/5/00. Let's hope all goes well without any accidents... By the way - pass on the word - that anyone can review our progress by simply going to our web site at fly.to/eaa-oroville Ron ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Building Coming Down - 9/1/00 (Copied from the OFOF Forum) The Oroville Foundation of Flight has met on the previous Wednesdays at the "FRANCISCO" restaurant in Oroville. Several issues have been reviewed and acted upon. Among which is the proposal to install underground electrical service to the building site on Wes Barrett Lane. Plans have been drafted and submitted to the City of Oroville (property owner) and will be reviewed at the coming City Council meeting on Sept. 5,00. Final erection of the last of three flag poles at our Doner Wall of Fame has brought that project to completion. Allowing us to permanently place the name plaques of members and community enthusiasts who have contributed "TO MAKE THESE FLIGHT FACILITIES POSSIBLE" Air Filtration Co has donated a Steel/Vinyl structure measuring 25' x 50' and 20' tall. Chapter and Foundation members will be removing this structure and erecting it on the building pad at Wes Barrett lane temporarilly. This "Briefing Hut" will serve the Foundation as an activity center for meetings, temporary "class room" for aviation education projects, and construction center for the future permanent building/hangar. KEEP ABREAST OF THESE PROJECTS - WELCOME TO REVIEW or ASSIST ANYTIME. QUESTIONS ?? ; RON TURNER 534 - 8646 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Double Work Day (Hut and Flagpoles) - 8/25/00 What a Day ! - What a day !! Rabel and I showed up at Air Filtration's location on Baggett-Marysville road this morning at 0800 and met MD and Jim Barton, AFC's Manager. Jim opened the gate for us and instructed us on the use of their forklift. From there, we began hooking up the pressure washer and rolling out the water hose. Terry, Howard, and Dan arrived and we all removing the crates, lumber scraps, metal tubes etc. from the area of the "Hut" (our newly aquired vinyl building). Blowing off the asphalt in and around the "Hut" was our primary project with the pressure washer. However there were various other tasks to be looked after before we could continue with removing the cover and endwalls of the structure. Excess rigging, ropes, etc were removed and each section named, numbered and marked. This kept us busy till noon. After lunch and a nap - ( I took one ) we were joined together late in the PM by Dave Harmacek, Karolyn, Joe Cook and Millard Sturgeon over at the Chapter home site. MD maned the transit-level while Millard, Joe, Dave, Howard, Dan, Ray and I hoisted the flag poles and craned them over to their piers. After much labor, shouting, yelling, and arm waving back and forth to MD, Millard, and the guy hanging onto the rope, the poles were righted and bolted in place. After partaking some refreshments and viewing the three flag poles standing in their splendor, we all adjourned for the day. Again - What a Day ! Ron
